Places to eat in Chichester, West Sussex

I like going out - whether it is a nice lunch, dinner, morning coffee or simply afternoon drink. In this blog I will give you some review of the restaurants and pubs in Chichester area so that you can avoid disappointment which I did face a few times.

1. Chichester :: Pizza Hut
Portfield Way, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 7WT

I'm starting with this one as it was just yesterday that we've decided to go for a quick dinner to this place. The place was actually nearly empty. We've been seated very quickly and the lady who was about to serve us said that she'll be back in just a minute after giving us menus which had more grease on them than the fry pan after frying chips. We haven't really been offered any drinks and after waiting over 15min for her to stop chatting to her friend and come back to server us, we've simply gave up and went for a quick meal at next door Mc Donald.

This was the second time we were there and the second time we left without ordering anything.

The first time we went there about 3 years ago, and after this visit we've decided that we will never come back there again. But yesterday we've decided to give it another try - unfortunately, it was a waste of time again.

Summary: If you haven't got the whole day to spend waiting to be served - don't bother.

2. Chichester :: Zizzi
43 South Street, Chichester, PO19 1DR Tel: 01243 839089

Now, this one is the exact opposite of the previous one. Chichester's Zizzi is just one of the best places I've been to in the Chichester area.

Very spacious place, great food, selection of wines, and most importantly the service is just the first class.

As to the prices - it's really not bad for the quality they provide. We have paid £48.00 for a lunch for two adults and a child - this included a bottle of the nice wine.

Summary: If you want to go for a nice lunch or dinner with your friends or family - Zizzi in Chichester is the choice you certainly won't regret.

3. Chichester :: El Castizo
24 St. Pancras, Victoria Court, Chichester Tel: 01243 788988

This, Mediterranean restaurant isn't very easy to find, but it is worth a while.

As for the food - large choice of the seafood, a variety of vegetarian dishes and some imported meat and cheeses, all of which are prepared and served in a traditional Spanish environment.

Prices: 7 tapas, jug of sangria and kalimocho (red wine with coca cola) came to around £40.00.

Summary: Great food and very nice service but perhaps not the best location.

4. Chichester :: Slug & Lettuce
27-28 Southgate, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1ES‎ Tel: 01243 792012

I really like Slug & Lettuce - nice, comfortable sofas, relaxing music in the background, very good food and great service.

There's just one thing which annoys me there - small flies. The other day we had to change the glass of wine because two of them decided to try it.

Summary: Great spot to meet with the friends for a drink or to have something to eat.

5. Chichester :: Gatehouse - The Lloyds No 1 Bar
Stockbridge Road, Chichester, PO19 8EE

Well, there was this 'good bye' party in Lloyds No1 with the dinner. My wife and I have ordered two medium done beef stakes. If I knew what we were about to experience I'd get myself a salad.

The steaks came with the nice toothpick flag on which was proudly written "Medium". When I cut a piece of this meat it was like trying to go through the wooden table - dry and very hard. When I've turned the stake on the other site I have realised that it was completely burned (black).

The steak went back to the kitchen, and they didn't even offer a refund for it - very sad.

Summary: If you are serious about the food then don't bother - you get better food in McDonald which is just around the corner.

6. Chichester :: Trents
50 South St, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1DS‎ Tel: 01243 773714‎

Chichester Trents is a very nice place to have a quality meal. By quality I man QUALITY.

The other day we've decided to go for a lunch with my friend. He suggested the Trents - knowing that I like quality food, he said that I won't regret it - and I didn't.

Very nice and friendly service, patio outside if you'd like some fresh air with your meal. And yes - food - something unforgettable. The main area however is fairly tight - but that's not a big problem as all other things are just perfect.

Summary: Amazing food and very nice service but a little bit more space inside would do the trick.

7. Chichester :: The George and Dragon Inn
51 North Street, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1NQ Tel: 01243 785 660‎

The George and Dragon Inn is a great spot if you are planning to stay a few days in Chichester. They have their own B&B, very nice and friendly pub with the nice food being served there.

I had a chance to stay there one night and the rooms are really very nice.

Patio outside and a separate area for a lunch - with a lot of light from outside.

Summary: Nice place with good food and place to stay if you need.
